The Ambassade Hotel Amsterdam along the Herengracht Canal is comprised of 10 canal homes joined into one hotel building. It has the customary steep stairs, paintings, antique furnishings, and a rather confusing layout, but all these are just part of the hotel’s charm. The hotel is excellently situated. You can walk from the hotel to the tram station as well as to the many museums in the city. You may also rent a bike directly from the hotel. If you want to relax, you should give Koan Floating a try.
Ambassade Hotel Amsterdam
May 23rd, 2009 by jinkyMovenpick Hotel Amstersdam
May 17th, 2009 by jinkyThe Movenpick Hotel is a waterfront property that is around 10 minutes away (on foot) from the Amsterdam City Center (particularly the Central Station). This is either good or bad depending on what you are in Amsterdam for. If you love to play tourist and being out until late at night, you should probably get a room at a more centrally located hotel. If you are in Amsterdam on business or if you don’t mind walking to and from the hotel or waiting for the regular hotel shuttle (it comes at 30-minute intervals), then the Movenpick Hotel’s location should be okay.
Hotel Nadia
May 15th, 2009 by jinkyHotel Nadia is located in Raadhuisstraat. It is near the Dam and is within walking distance from the popular tourist spots in Amsterdam. If you have a heart condition or knee problems, you should probably stay somewhere else. There’s no elevator and the stairs are steep and narrow, as is typical of Amsterdam’s canal homes. The hotel facilities are adequate, but they are not luxurious either. The staff is friendly and efficient. All in all, this hotel will make a good base for weekend tourists and those who have business in the city.
Hotel Fita
May 13th, 2009 by jinkyIf you are planning your first-ever trip to Amsterdam, you should consider staying at Hotel Fita. This hotel is located in central Amsterdam so you will find that everything you wish to visit in the city center is within walking distance. However, the central location is just one of the best things about the hotel and not actually its best feature. First-time visitors to Amsterdam will appreciate even more the personalized attention that the hotel owners give to their guests.
Banks Mansion
May 11th, 2009 by jinkyThe Banks Mansion is on the Herengracht Canal. Many of the rooms have a canal view. To ensure that your room overlooks the canal, you need to be clear about your requirements when you book your room. With or without the canal view, the rooms are more than satisfactory – especially if you’re staying in a Suite, which has a flat screen TV and its own Jacuzzi. The Banks Mansion is located in an upscale neighborhood; you’ll find plenty of restaurants, exclusive shops, parks, and theaters in the area. The museums are also just a short walk away.
Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken
May 9th, 2009 by jinkyThe Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken is in the museum quarter so you can easily walk to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank Museum, and the Hermitage. You can also take in a show at nearby Koninklijke Stadsschouwburg and Concertgebouw then have dinner in any one of the posh restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. If you are in the mood for shopping, the hotel actually overlooks the high-fashion district of Amsterdam; you won’t miss Armani and Versace for they’re practically there on your doorstep.
Hotel Estherea
May 7th, 2009 by jinkyLuxury and grandeur characterize the Hotel Estherea on the Singel. From the reception to the rooms, the hotel’s furnishings are all sumptuous and tasteful. The bathrooms are excellently appointed. Each guest room has a separate bath and shower; the toilet is also separate. The beds are plush and very comfortable. The rooms are very quiet, even those that face the street, and they have their own mini-bar, TV, safe, Wi-Fi, and DVD player. The hotel staff keeps the fridge stocked with fresh bottles of water. Just be careful of the chandelier in your room; it is beautiful but it is low-hanging.
Hotel Brouwer
May 7th, 2009 by jinkyHotel Brouwer is a 17th century building along the Singel canal in Amsterdam. There are only 8 rooms spread over three floors. Each of the rooms is named after a Dutch artist, has a view of the canal and has its own private bath. The floors are uneven, which adds to the hotel’s quirkiness and character. The stairs are steep and narrow, as is typical of stairs in Amsterdam, but an elevator (albeit a very small one) is also available.
Hotel Zandbergen
May 3rd, 2009 by jinkyThe Hotel Zandbergen is a 3-star hotel in an Amsterdam suburb. It is close enough to the city center to make going to and fro a breeze (in fact, the Museumplein is but a few minutes’ walk from the hotel), but far enough from the city center to ensure some peace and quiet. If you don’t want to walk, simply take the tram which stops almost right outside the hotel.
Sofitel Amsterdam The Grand
May 3rd, 2009 by jinkyIf you’re going to Amsterdam for the canals, then you will love the Sofitel Amsterdam. It is perched between two canals, so be sure to ask for a room with a canal view to ensure the maximum amount of enjoyment. Some rooms overlook the garden, which is beautiful and should suffice for those who have no real preference. In any case, as long as you book early, you should not lack for choice as Sofitel Amsterdam The Grand has 178 rooms; room rates start at approximately $350.
